Are you tired of washing off the stains from your Sofas’, Couches’ & Bean Bags’ which are caused by small children spilling around food every now and then? If yes then do watch out this video till end. Hello, this is Tushar from Charu Creation Pvt Ltd, a fashion fabric company at Nehru Place, New Delhi. So friends, using PU Fabric for making your sofas, couches and bean bags could save you lot of time and energy. So what actually is PU Fabric or Leather?

PU leather, also known as synthetic leather, is an imitation of the real leather created from polyurethane, a plastic with a similar feel and aspect to the leather, but without involving animals. The most common way to create PU leather is using a cover of plastic polyurethane or a polyurethane coating and applying or heat laminating it to a base made of polyester fabric, nylon fabric or cotton fabric. The PU coating when applied to any fabric makes the fabric water resistant, lightweight and flexible.

The ability to resist water has made it the most used fabric for upholstery as stains can easily be cleaned off by just using a cloth soaked in soap water. It is appropriate for making sofas, couches & beanbags as stains can easily be cleaned off. It is also a very popular choice for making Diapers & Camping Gears. Friends, you will be amazed to know that PU fabric is also fire-retardant. PU fabric has some advantages over Leather.

The first & the foremost: It gets produced more ethically as no animals are harmed as in the case of Leather.

Second, PU Leather costs less than genuine leather because it is easier to manufacture.

Third, it is very easy to clean as compared to leather as leather is not water resistant. Infact, this particular property of water absorption is also used to distinct Real Leather from Fake Leather. Real leather absorbs water. PU Leather does not absorb water.

Fourth, PU leather is more resistant to the sun’s rays than animal leather, which is why it is often used for couches, armchairs and for car and motorcycle seats.

Fifth, leather requires periodic maintenance as it dries out over time but PU on the other hand does not require maintenance as it doesn’t dry out over time.

Sixth, PU leather can be made into a variety of colors and styles. The variety is limited in the case of leather.

However friends, PU Leather has some disadvantages also when compared with leather. PU Leather is not breathable and therefore it is not a great choice for making clothes. Leather is a better choice for making clothes as it is animal skin & has natural pores for absorbing air.

One more thing, though PU leather is durable enough but when compared to leather, it loses out on this aspect. PU fabric doesn’t last as long as real leather.
